If you exist at the triple intersection of cars, watches, and coffee, you might be doing yourself a disservice if you haven’t yet made a pilgrimage to the Motoring Club. Founded in 2018 by Michael Rapetti, the Motoring Club is a car enthusiast club that serves both our fine city of Los Angeles as well as San Francisco to the north. Think Cars & Coffee, but less nomadic; the automotive diaspora gathers here with regularity to both inject caffeine as well as attend great social events that celebrate their collective love of the automobile. The ambiance is great, the cars are incredible, and the coffee is delicious. It’s hard not to want to frequent these four walls.

It’s quite random that my very first “anything” in Los Angeles was a Motoring Club-hosted motorcycle ride through the Malibu canyons that culminated in a screening of Motorcycle Mary, a short documentary celebrating American motorsports pioneer and Baja 500 conqueror Mary McGee. I had no idea what the Motoring Club was, just that there was a ride happening. Accordingly, I also didn’t know at the time that this was going to be the start of a fresh network of friends derived entirely from the Motoring Club faithful. Although I’m not yet a member, I can attest to the genuine nature (and incredible rides) of the fine people who call the Motoring Club their second home.

This past weekend, on Saturday, October 4th, a slew of great California brands led by Lōci came together at the Motoring Club to celebrate that other hobby that goes hand in hand with cars: watches. It’s an iconic duo – the internet loves its watch-steering wheel wrist shots – and it makes total sense to invest in the love of watches at a temple dedicated to the love of all things mechanical. Horology is alive and well here in the Golden State: in addition to Lōci, Bespoke Watch Projects, Camp Watches, Nodus, Treiber, and Vaer were all on-site to show off their lineups. Ronald and I were fortunate enough to see the sights as well as take a photo or two. Enjoy.

Lōci’s PCH ‘Big Sur’ is just a treat to photograph.
Another Lōcī, this time the PCH ‘Monterey Bay’ as seen on the wrist of founder Trip Henderson.
The recent Doxa 750T ‘Clive Cussler’ L.E. as seen on the wrist of friend and fellow TGNer, Shay.
The Obscura by Nodus. This watch is intended to help photographers measure proper exposure without the need for a light meter.

Special thanks to Ronald for capturing me slacking off. Rocking my trusty 16710 as is tradition.

Check out this RZE UTD-8000-BK. The case is made from Grade 2 Titanium with RZE’s proprietary UltraHex™ coating.
I’ll take one of these as a Christmas present, thanks.

Ronald double-wristing with his trusty PAM111 and utilitarian Garmin Instinct Solar 3. Both are regular running companions.

The Nomos x Ace Jewelers Metro Neomatik as seen on the wrist of ABTW Editor Ripley Sellers.
This particular Camp Fieldtimer in Atlantic Blue is one of Justin Jakobson’s prototypes – note the different colored lume for the numerals.
The Astor+Banks Fortitude Lite in Mother of Pearl.
