This week, I made my monthly pilgrimage to August’s Enablers Anony- RedBar ATL meetup. RedBar has a wonderful crew of enthusiasts here in Atlanta, and whether you are in it for Casios or Audemars Piguets, they always have a plethora of interesting watches on hand to take in. This is a dangerous place if you like telling time but your wallet is on life support, so I was courageous enough to show up and memorialize it for you! Readers be forewarned: Count Sunny Hours is not liable for any photo-induced impediments to your financial stability.

About

I often think about my hobbies within the context of community and “being amongst your tribe” – after all, what fun is it if you love something, but can’t share it with anyone? I ride motorcycles and adore my Ducati to death, so I surround myself with like-minded adrenaline addicts on a weekly basis. Videogames have always been a closet-nerd activity of mine, and I have a network of online friends who love to partake in digital mishaps together. Watches are no different! It may not be as active given the mindset is focused on collecting versus doing, but the core components of passion, education and friendliness still apply. If you love wrist watches like I do, you owe it to yourself to get looped in with similar individuals.

As fortune would have it, I was lucky enough to be introduced to RedBar last October and have finally found a group of friends with the same perverse sickness as me. In case you are not familiar with the organization, RedBar is a watch enthusiast & collector group with its roots in the New York watch scene. The formula has proven popular, and RedBar has expanded significantly across the United States. Each month, our particular chapter gets together to break bread and ingest beverages over a table chock full of the good stuff – Omega, Grand Seiko, Rolex, you name it, it is there. I could wax unpoetically a little bit longer, but I know you enjoy taking in the eye candy as much as I do, so let us switch over to a more visual narrative without further delay.

Watch Scouting

The Tudor Black Bay Pro owned by Mehul. It might be “thicc” with two C’s, but who cares when you are this photogenic?
Speedy Brigade member #1 – Bob’s visually dazzling Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope.
Speedy Brigade member #2 – Vincent’s MoonSwatch Mission to Mars. Check out those sweet rocket subdial hands. Oh how I love you, Alaska Project.
Speedy Brigade member #3, veteran of the previous century – a 1969 145.012-69 transitional reference. Find it for sale at Living The Anchor Life’s website.
On The Dash’s Jeff Stein and fellow RedBar member Chris admiring time pieces together.
My photography skills (or lack thereof) do Grand Seiko’s Lake Suwa a major disservice – this watch’s dial texture is breathtaking up close.
IWC’s new F1 AMG Pilot’s Watch. I will likely burn my retinas out if I stare at those hands too long but I just can’t be held responsible for my actions.
Pure, clean functionality from the railway masters at Ball.
A little CSH on-the-scene documenting of RedBar ATL's latest meetup.
My trusty 16710 GMT-Master II being test-driven by fellow RedBar member Caitlin – I love this watch. Yes, I inevitably switched it back onto a NATO strap shortly thereafter. Death, taxes, NATO straps.
RedBar vets Josh and Brad checking out a little AP integrated bracelet action.
Caitlin’s new Santos de Cartier, which happens to be a future (and wonderfully classic) gift for her newborn son. To anyone with a spare Cartier, yes, I am available for adoption.
The Grand Seiko SBGC219 Spring Drive Chrono GMT. There’s some serious technical firepower packed within this beast of a watch.
